Airway Buffing wheel ORANGE Welded Center Plate 9 inch
What size polishing wheel should I use for polishing?
We recommend a 9 inch polishing wheel for most, it offers a great balance between maneuverability and wheel life. For more detailed work, consider an 8 inch wheel instead. The 10 and 12" (custom size) are often so large that they are only used by professionals on large flat jobs, such as a tanker truck. Businesses, professionals, and skilled users may find that 10 inch polishing wheels are ideal for them because of the longer wheel life. Some users purchase 10 inch polishing wheels with the intention of upgrading them to 8 or 9 inches to use for their detailed work, as opposed to purchasing multiple sizes.
Pairing Polishing Wheels with Polishing Compound Correctly:
Aluminum metal polishing
Polishing aluminum with our polishing wheels is typically a two-step process. We recommend pairing our brown polishing compound with our orange polishing wheels as the first step.
For the second step of polishing aluminum, we would like to pair our yellow polishing wheel with our green polishing compound.
Stainless steel polishing
Polishing stainless steel with our polishing wheels is typically a two-step process. The first step is to pair our red polishing wheel with our black compound. The second step is to use a pink polishing wheel with our yellow compound.
How to Polish Aluminum Wheels:
To polish aluminum and stainless steel wheels, combine the appropriate metal polishing compound (as listed above) with a smaller diameter polishing wheel to get into hard-to-reach areas of the wheel.
How do I use a polishing wheel rake?
The polishing wheel should be rotating at its normal speed and the rake should be held securely when it comes into contact with the wheel. On a polisher, please use caution when raking. We recommend using your feet to hold the rake to the ground and holding the polisher against the rake.
Why should I use the rake?
Compound buildup can reduce the effectiveness of the polishing wheel while creating a rougher surface. If you notice a significant decrease in residual metal dust produced while polishing, rake the polishing wheel and reapply a small amount of metal polishing compound.
Pro Tip: Always rake your polishing wheels before using them again to clean them.
